DC has a lot to offer, and it can be daunting to know where to start when you’re searching for weekend plans, volunteer opportunties, or your new favorite lunch spot. Our hot tip? Make sure you’re subscribed to the people in the know. Here are a few of the places we look when we need inspiration- there’s always more to discover!

 

Clockout DC

This blog is run by a DC local, Jade Womack, determined to make the most of her weeknights after “clocking out” of her day job. She combs through an astounding assortment of sources to find fun events across the city to share. Check out her blog here, sign up for her awesome newsletter, and follow her on Instagram!

DCist

What started as a volunteer-run passion project has since transformed into a fully-fledged news outlet. They’re the self-proclaimed unofficial homepage of the District, here to share everything going on in DC curated by Washingtonians for Washingtonians. You can find anything from research studies, mayoral election opinion pieces, to local restaurant recommendations.

Going Out Guide by the Washington Post

The Washington Post’s Arts & Entertainment section compiles DC-area nightlife, events, and dining recommendations under this subsection. Here, you’ll find weekly “best things to do in the DC area” listicles among a variety of other topics to explore!

Austin Graff

You can find Austin’s city guides both on his Instagram and in article format throughout the Washington Post. He has a variety of Instagram Highlights filled with the history and hidden gems of DC’s various neighborhoods and across the DMV. It’s a nice way to get to know Washington DC off the beaten path.

Washingtonian

This popular magazine shares everything in the region from politics to home and style. You’re sure to come across one of their articles at some point in your search. Their “Things To Do” section is a great place to start getting a feel for the city!

A Tour Of Her Own

The first tourism company in DC to focus exclusively on women’s history, TOHO is a great way to learn about the history of the city with a female-focused lens. They just came out with a book titled “111 Places in Women’s History That You Must Not Miss in Washington DC.” It’s a wonderful resource for curious locals and adventurous tourists alike and you’re sure to learn something new.
