Flock & Friends: Greenheart Juice
Even though fall is just around the corner, we're not ready to let go of summer just yet. This summer, Greenheart Juice has been a big favorite of our Flock. This DMV-based health food shop is taking the District by storm with their delicious yet nutritious products. We were so thrilled to chat with Emily Hoge from Greenheart to learn a bit more about what goes into this amazing local biz!
Q: What do you do on the daily at Greenheart Juice?
A: You can find us making cold-pressed juice, serving up smoothies and bowls in our shops, out delivering to customers, or connecting with them through our 12 farmers' markets on the weekend.
Q: What is the inspiration behind Greenheart Juice?
A: We’re super passionate about helping people feel their very best and supporting them in their efforts to live a fulfilling life. For us, quality food is a big part of that. Greenheart was created to provide powerfully nutritious, everyday health solutions to help people savor life.
Q: Who have been some of your favorite customers so far?
A: We have customers who have been with us since we started out at small weekday farmer's markets selling granola. It’s so fun seeing those customers in the stores stocking up on juice or grabbing smoothies for their whole family.
We’ve also had the opportunity to work with professional athletes who have realized that plant-based, nutrient-dense products can help improve their performance. They’re surprised how much stronger they feel, and quicker they can move. And, we really love getting people who want to improve their health but initially don’t have a lot of faith in their ability to stick with it. Then they try the juice, or our salads, or smoothies and realize that fruits and vegetables don’t have to be bland or boring. We get to see them transform over the course of a year, and it’s very fulfilling seeing our mission in action.
Q: How can our community best support Greenheart Juice?
A: "If you’re close to any of our stores, we’d love to see you in person! We also have a large presence at the farmer's markets in the DMV, which can be a fun weekend adventure to support local businesses and farms. If making it out is too much for someone with a busy schedule, we also deliver to over 150 zip codes across Virginia, DC, and Maryland at least once a week and have same-day delivery through DoorDash from any of our shops. Q: What does running a DMV-based business mean to you?
A: Building community is a big part of who we are and what we do. We love partnering with other entrepreneurs and small business owners in the area for special events. We also aim to create a sense of community in each of our shops by offering a comfortable space where people can come to connect with others over their shared interests in health and wellness.
Q: What is your favorite Greenheart summer product?
A: Summer Crush will always be a cherished favorite. It’s made with watermelon, aloe, mint, and lime, so it’s incredibly hydrating on hot summer days. Watermelon has an amino acid, citrulline, that relaxes blood vessels and improves blood flow making it great for muscle recovery and easing muscle cramps. It also tastes amazing. We have fall products launching in September that you’ll want to keep an eye out for, too.
