Employee Appreciation Day: A Slack Thread
It’s National Employee Appreciation Day and we’re all atwitter. We’re rolling out some “get to know our team” featurettes over on Flock’s Instagram (and, naturally, tying that into Women’s History Month as a proud women-owned and powered business). Here, we’ll be sharing a little peek into the minds of our team and we hope you enjoy reading this fun thread, which was repurposed from some of our team’s internal communications.
The question posed was as follows: Someone gives you a bird. You cannot sell or give away this bird. What kind of bird is it and what would you do with it?
Laura, on our Nest leasing team, said a raven, because they’re wicked smart and mini terrors. She’d name him Roscoe. #starkravenmad
Eser, our Nest VP, chose the Southern Masked Weaver. Eser wants to train it to weave different things to sell and raise money for a noble cause. Obviously, he would name it Sigourney the Weaver. #sig
Hanna, our senior creative manager and photographer, decided on a small white parakeet, so she can dress like a Disney princess and train it to land on her hand when she sings.
Lydia, who heads our Flock Relations team, is looking for a masterful pigeon to start her underground pigeon network.
Mimi, our social media manager, asked for a Great Horned Owl named Big Mama (after one of her favorite movies, The Fox and The Hound) as a cute pet.
Stephanie, also from our Nest leasing team, was thinking of her immediate need for a cup of warm tea and wanted a Greater Honeyguide – though their interesting human-bird communication would make her inability to roll her “r”s difficult. She then acknowledged the bird’s ruthless nature as a brood parasite and decided to take her tea unsweetened for the sake of the other birds. She opted to instead share her sugar with a cute little hummingbird.
Our Boss Lady, lisa wise, picks this moment to enter the chat and question, “Is it inappropriate to talk about chicken soup in this thread?”
Finally, Nilton, from our finance team, also asks for a raven, but because they collect shiny things and he finds the idea of a shiny present every day quite fun.
Another member of our team did kindly request we avoid presenting such a thought-provoking question in the early hours of a Wednesday morning. That said, we’re proud (and only mildly surprised) that our team has so much bird-related knowledge ready to go at any given moment. Happy Employee Appreciation Day! We hope you enjoyed this as much as we did because, quite frankly, our team is just the best.
