Celebrating Juneteenth
This Sunday is Juneteenth (short for “June Nineteenth”) and commemorates the emancipation of the last enslaved Black people in the United States two-and-a-half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. The holiday was first celebrated in Galveston, Texas- the last state to declare enslaved people free. Flock believes that we are all responsible for a more just and equitable future. It is so important to reflect, learn, and then take action.
As a company, we are observing Juneteenth by closing our offices on Monday so all staff have the day to celebrate, connect, and reflect as they wish.
If Juneteenth is a time where you are having conversations about racial injustice with your family and friends, there are plenty of resources, great books (from local Black-owned bookstores!), or videos you can share for more context. We also recommend attending some local events! Have any other resources, media, or events to share? Let us know by tagging us @flockdc!
